Childbirth Class
Preparing for the arrival of a new baby is exciting, but there can be a lot to learn before the big day. Knowing what to expect will ease your mind and ensure a positive experience for both you and your baby. Rhonda McElfresh, RN is our childbirth educator and has been a labor and delivery nurse at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital for many years.
Our six-week series of classes covers all aspects of childbirth including:
Week 1: Discomforts of pregnancy, relaxation
Week 2: Labor terminology and stages of labor
Week 3: Focus on active labor
Week 4: Baby care
Week 5: Tour of OB unit and c/sections
Week 6: What to bring to the hospital, postpartum and safety
The classes are highly recommended by the OB physicians for first time parents. The best time to sign up for a class is around 20 weeks gestation. You can register on-line or contact Marcie Moody in the St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital education department at (405)878-3404.
For your convenience, we offer a six week session of classes on Thursday nights, 7-9 PM, or an all day Saturday class. These classes are held in the West Education Classroom at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital. The class is free to those who deliver at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital and $40 for those who plan to deliver at another facility.

Breastfeeding Classes
Breastfeeding your infant can be wonderful and rewarding experience. We also understand it can be a little overwhelming. Our certified lactation consultants, Susan Reavis and Charli Hull, RN will help ease your concerns and answer any questions you may have. Our breastfeeding classes are on Saturdays from 12-2, the cost is $10 for mom and $5 for guests, lunch is provided and each mom will receive a free car seat. CPR Class
Whether you are a healthcare provider, a new parent or an employee required to have CPR training, we have the class to meet your need. Classes are taught by American Heart Association trained instructors. Save a life – learn CPR! Diabetes Support Group
Meets every other month on the 5th Tuesday at 7:00pm in the West Education Classroom. Dates for 2011 are: March 29th, May 31st, August 30th, and November 29th. For more information, contact Jean Miller at (405) 275-4243.
