Welcome to the Center for Women at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital. We know this is a very exciting time for you and we are thrilled that you have chosen us as your hospital.
The Center for Women at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital provides comprehensive health care for women of all ages, in every aspect of life.
Our state-of-the-art Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms promote a home-like, positive environment where women can fully experience the miracle of life in privacy with their loved ones. St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital also has a Level II Nursery, which can provide appropriate medical attention to healthy, premature and special needs babies not requiring transfer to a neonatal intensive care unit.
We offer childbirth classes and breastfeeding classes to help you prepare for your new arrival. Families will receive one free car seat by attending all 5 sessions of the childbirth class, 1/2 day Saturday class or a breastfeeding class.
Childbirth Classes
Preparing for the arrival of a new baby is exciting, but there can be a lot to learn before the big day. Knowing what to expect will ease your mind and ensure a positive experience for both you and your baby. Childbirth classes are $10 for the series of traditional classes or the Express childbirth classes.
Traditional Childbirth class. This class is specifically designed for first time moms but current moms can attend. This class covers information in more detail and has more time for questions and answers. For these classes we are currently allowing you to invite grandparents to the Newborn Care day which will be the last class session. Thursday classes are 7 pm to 9 pm, for five weeks. Class are provided to the right with the expected due date. Our five-week series of classes covers all aspects of childbirth including Post Partum Care.
Express Childbirth class. This class is offered on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 pm. This class is intended to be a review for current moms but first time moms can attend. This class has concentrated information but covers major topics
The classes are highly recommended by the OB physicians for first time parents. The best time to sign up for a class is around 20 weeks gestation. You can register on-line or contact the women's center department at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital at (405)214-1521.

Lactation Services
We have a full time International Board Certified Lactation Consultant available to visit, educate and assist you with breastfeeding during your recovery and postpartum stay. You can also make a follow up visit after discharge in the Lactation Office. The Lactation Office is open Monday –Friday 8:00-4:30. Appointments can be made by calling (405) 214-1556. You may schedule an appointment even if you did not deliver at our hospital.
Breastfeeding Classes:
Breastfeeding your infant can be wonderful and rewarding experience. We also understand it can be a little overwhelming. Our certified lactation consultants, Susan Reavis and Charli Hull, RN will help ease your concerns and answer any questions you may have. Our breastfeeding classes are on Saturdays from 12-2, the cost is $10 for mom and $5 for guests, lunch is provided and each mom will receive a free car seat. Once your new bundle of joy has arrived, family and friends will have the opportunity to see your bundle of joy via our Web Nursery. With a few simple clicks, loved ones can view and celebrate your new baby.
